Getting Ready For The Fair

Carson and Andrea's idea of getting their animals ready for the fair is a little different than ours.  For example, in the first picture above Carson is supposed to be teaching his goat to lead.  Not taking a ride on the big wheel with Skippy in tow.

Andrea is trying to tame her sheep by reading stories to them.  She show them the pictures as well.  Hum?  Only time will tell. The fair is next week and they are excited.  Jensen will also be showing one of these sheep and she thinks she is doing a good turn daily by reading to his sheep as well.

Sadie

Sadie is our newest addition to our bunny bunch. Andrea is pretty proud of her little bunny. She did a great job showing her at the Box Elder County Fair this year.

County Fair 2010 -- Another Success

We had another wonderful year at the fair this year . Fair week is a pretty busy week. For one thing or another the kids have to be out there every day. We pretty much say we live at the fair for a week. I really appreciate Greg taking work off to be there for the kids because it was impossible for me to do so. He is such a wonderful dad.
Jensen brought home two trophies. He received one of them because his rabbit got best of breed. The other one was a management award that they give to a person is 4-H who is dedicated to his club, his project, and participates in activities throughout the year and continually looks for ways to improve his project. Chalisse did a great job on her lamb project this year. And brought in some money to go toward her college education.
This is a picture of Jensen and Chalisse washing their lambs and getting them ready for showmanship.

This is Jensen showing his lamb. He placed pretty high in his division.

This year Jensen also participated in the Rabbit Bowl. He took 2nd place in the junior division and 4th overall in the championship round. I don't know half the stuff he has learned over the years.

I love little bunnies and couldn't resist holding Jensen's new addition. (Although I still think it's mine)

Andrea was a clover bud this year. She learned a lot of new things. This is a pink jewelry box that she painted. All clover buds receive participation ribbons.

Chalisse entered some scrapbook pages that received a blue ribbon and also a state fair ribbon. So check her scrapbook pages out at the state fair if you happen to go.

Carson painted a Halloween picture. Actually he painted some orange and yellow paper and cut it out in the shape of a pumpkin and glued it onto black card stock.

Jensen's rabbit "Pearly" received Best of Breed. He is also one of his friendliest rabbits.

This was Andrea's first year in rabbit 4-H. She learned about rabbits and was also able to show her rabbit at the fair this year.

County Fair Time Again!

Well, there has been so much going on lately that I'm not sure where to start. I think I'll start with the County Fair since we spent a whole week there. I know most of you are saying, "Why a whole week." Well, Chalisse and Jensen are involved in 4-H. Many think of 4-H as horses, sewing, or cooking. This is somewhat true. 4-H does offer the opportunity to learn in the areas of horse riding, sewing, and cooking, but this is actually only a little part. 4-H areas include citizenship and civic education, communication and expressive art, consumer and family sciences, environmental education and earth science, healthy lifestyle education, personal development and leadership, plants and animals, and science & technology. Basically you can participate in about anything. I usually ask my kids what they would like to learn and then go from there.

Chalisse has participated in public speaking and talent contests, portfolio contests. She has taken modeling classes and given demonstrations on first aid. She also has participated in each of the above categories as well. This year she showed a lamb ($$$ for education $$$), and participated in expressive art, consumer and family sciences, healthy lifestyle education, and science and technology. She actually has three items that are down at the state fair now. So if any of you are going to the state fair look for her items. They will be in the Deseret Building. I had to put this picture in because Chalisse loved working with her lamb.

Jensen has participated in demonstration contests and other categories as well. He finds his love of 4-H in learning about animals. He actually belongs to 3 different 4- H groups. This year Jensen wanted to raise and show a lamb at the fair. Since he also has his own rabbit business, he wanted to show his rabbits as well.
So, here is Jensen in the showmanship contest. He is showing one of his rabbits that was born in June. He received a blue ribbon in showmanship where they judge how well he works with his animal and knowledge about his animal. All five of his rabbits also received blue ribbons.

This is auction time at the fair where they take their lamb into the auction barn and their animal is auctioned off. The money he earns from this goes into savings for education.
This is a picture of Jensen during the lamb showing. This is where his lamb is judged.
It was another successful year at the fair. Yippee!
